From perseverance to residency: the story of Kenner Bracho
My life project is in Colombia
This is how Kenner Alfonso Bracho Hernández sums up the journey he has taken since arriving in the country in 2016 — bringing with him not only his studies in social communication, but also the determination to rebuild his life with dignity.
Like many Venezuelan migrants, Kenner left his country in search of better opportunities. Although he held a university degree, the social and economic crisis pushed him to look for new horizons. He arrived in Colombia full of hope, but soon faced the challenges of starting over: economic hardship, the absence of support networks, and numerous barriers to practicing his profession.
Yet his perseverance proved stronger than any obstacle. Kenner took on different jobs, adapted, kept learning, and little by little rebuilt his path. In 2021, he obtained Temporary Protected Status (TPS) — a key tool that gave him access to essential rights such as health, education, and formal employment. But for Kenner, that was just one step toward a bigger goal: settling permanently and building his life project on solid foundations.

At Heartland Alliance International, we identified Kenner’s case and prioritized it to provide tailored support for accessing rights and services — helping him navigate the process of obtaining a Resident Visa under the Temporary Protection Statute for Venezuelan Migrants (ETPV).
For several months, our team accompanied him through every stage of the process:

- Support in procedures with Migración Colombia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- Continuous follow-up on requirements
- Final assistance to obtain his foreigner’s ID card
